Dear Teachers and Principals,

Today's students who have an interest in Information and
Communications and Technology need to know about the
importance of a career in networking. It is now and will become a
critical skills set over the next 5 years due initiatives such as the
National Broadband Network.

We invite you to come along and hear from some of the top leaders
in Education and the ICT industry. John Maddock – (CEO, Box Hill
Institute), Cisco's Vice President, Les Williamson and a guest
speaker from NBN Co.

Box Hill Institute is the Victorian TAFE Specialist Centre for ICT
and is a leading institution that has offered Networking courses for
over 15 years and ICT courses for nearly forty years.
The Institute is instrumental in building 21st Century skills such as
collaboration and problem solving by encouraging practical
application of knowledge through hands on activities and network
simulations. The courses are designed to help students prepare for
career opportunities, continuing education and globally recognized
certifications.

The VPA is committed to gathering a strong voice on educational issues from school leaders and our members. This wiki will be used as a forum sharing ongoing, interactive comment on issues and challenges that are current in our schools. Whilst we believe the forum will start with Victorian perspectives, we hope a global community will form to share best practice, problem solving and innovation.

Thank you for the emails re supporting the fire victims, I am happy to help as needed. Our school students donated $800 in one day alone so people are certainly willing to help.
I''ve been out at local fires
All of our school communities have been impacted either directly or emotionally
One of our families who has one boy in grade 6 and one in Year9 has come to me to suggest that schools might be able to take up a 'text book' collection to replace the books lost by so many students.
This is a time where so many have come together to support - this is comforting at a time when 'community' is slowly disappearing.
We have already started a gold coin donation through students and on Friday we are having a school community morning tea to raise further funds. My school council president left the school after assembly to take a car load of clothes, blankets, towels and sheets.
It is amazing how communities come together to help those less fortunate. I am quite sure that some of our families would be happy to provide short term shelter if need be to families left without a roof for comfort, nourishment and rest.
The issue becomes more acute after the initial rush has passed and more apparent three months on!
Our school has already got our Junior Action Group in action organising a fundraiser to collect donations from the community.
As a member of the CFA I understand the dangers of fire and over the past weekend. We will be putting in a fire water tank here at the school to ensure we have a 'safe place' not only for the students but for the whole community.
If I or my school community can assist in any way please let me know... I am willing to travel to the affected areas and assist in any way.

The rebuilding process will be long and arduous.
